Frequently Asked Questions About IFS Therapy
IFS is an evidence-based approach that helps you understand the different parts of yourself with curiosity and compassion. It is based on the idea that we all have different parts within us, and that these parts are trying to protect us in the best way they know how.
IFS does not treat your thoughts or behaviours as problems to be fixed. Instead, it helps you understand why patterns such as anxiety, self-criticism, people-pleasing, or difficulty setting boundaries developed, and what those parts may need in order to heal.
No. You don’t need any previous knowledge of IFS. I will guide you through the process at a pace that feels comfortable and manageable for you.
Sessions provide a warm, collaborative space where we gently explore what is happening beneath the surface. Together, we’ll get to know the different parts of you, understand the roles they have played, and help them feel heard and supported. Over time, this can create more space for self-trust, calm and healing.
No. We will always work at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you.
In IFS therapy, we begin by getting to know the protective parts of you that may be carrying anxiety, self-criticism or other difficult emotions. There is no pressure to revisit painful experiences before you’re ready. As trust develops, deeper healing often happens naturally, with compassion rather than overwhelm.
Yes. Many patterns that feel difficult to change, such as anxiety, people-pleasing, perfectionism or low self-esteem, often developed as ways of protecting you or helping you cope. IFS helps us understand these patterns with compassion, making lasting change possible.
The number of sessions varies from person to person and depends on what brings you to therapy. Some people find short-term therapy helpful for a specific issue, while others choose longer-term work to explore deeper patterns and experiences. We will review your progress regularly and decide together what feels right for you.

I currently offer online therapy, allowing you to access support from the comfort and privacy of your own home, whether you’re based in the UK or overseas.

Yes. Everything you share is confidential, except in the rare circumstances where I have a legal or ethical duty to share information to protect you or someone else from serious harm. I will explain confidentiality fully before we begin working together.
It’s completely normal to feel unsure. Reaching out for support can feel like a big step, especially if you’re used to coping on your own. That’s why I offer a free 15-minute consultation. It’s an opportunity for us to talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, answer any questions you have and see whether working together feels like the right fit.
Simply get in touch by email to arrange your free 15-minute consultation. I aim to respond to all enquiries within two working days.
